![]() With the entire Chicago Lakefront built on miles of landfill and slag there still remains a small stretch of semi-secluded beachfront just north of the Southworks Site. Only fractions of the original topography and habitat remain as is the case with most of urban Chicago. This community was formed out of wetland prairie to provide residence for the labor force of European immigrants coming to work at the industries developing along the Calumet River, most notably the North Chicago Rolling Mill Company, built at the mouth of the river in 1881. Bowen, the "Father of South Chicago," and others in a massive land grab wrested the land from its former existence and founded "Ainsworth" among other communities. The post-Civil War era brought with it great industrial innovation. They and other Native peoples used South Chicago and the shallow Calumet River area as portages, for seasonal settlements, hunting and fishing thousands of years before White settlers arrived to the "New World". First occupied by a chief named Askhum, considered 'lord' of the vast Callimink ( Calumet) Valley and leader of the Pottawatomie people. Once a separate community, South Chicago began as a series of scattered Native American settlements before becoming a village. ![]() Indesign is not a word processor and not a resume making app, it is page layout and the mainstay app for many in print and design. This creates headaches for anyone trying to use Publisher and Indesign for collaborative work.Ī resume set in indesign and opening in Word (did not even know people did that) is going to be a very simple thing and maybe that is why your use has been close to flawless. They both have features that the other does not have, well at least Publisher cannot do certain things Indesign can, I am sure there is some the other way around but the big ones is Indesign can do more. I think the problem comes is people want a flawless conversion from Indesign to Affinity, and that is just not going to happen. Step 3: IDMarkz will open Affinity Publisher and it will present its PDF Options dialog and leave everything at default. You will have to have Affinity Publisher loaded on your computer. You can open IDML files now in Publisher so the feature is there now. Step 2: Click on the icon Open in Publisher located in the main toolbar. indd directly).įirst off it is not Affinities responsibility to make sure you can open Indesign documents so you do not lose the ability to open them in the future. But presently that means a third-party utility (Mac only at present) or using a version of ID that can run a script to individually or batch convert. Nor, and again, unless I am missing it, can Word natively open. Unless I am missing something, Word cannot natively open. I dunno where you are picking up either arrogance or sarcasm. If MS Word can execute a nearly flawless translation of an idd resumé into a docx, I'm not sure why Affinity can't or doesn't want to. ![]() I would love nothing more than to convert them all into Affinity documents, and I would think Affinity would want me to. I just don't want all my idd documents to be lost forever - the contents of everything from resumés to past theatre programs (I run a small theatre) are unavailable to me in Catalina, and Affinity won't open them. Starting right now, I want to be able to create all NEW documents in Affinity. It is impossible to say if there are BIG changes in code and program architecture that the mentioned words in capital letters imply (perhaps just for me), but I hope I am wrong and we'll see fruits of the kinds of internal changes that have been made, which would make it possible to have, at some point (not necessarily along 2.x path) big (power) usability changes like scripting support or at least improved macro operations (and not just in Photo), improvements in PDF imports and exports, interchange file format supporting edits, improved search and replace with area limits and ability to save GREP definitions, CJK and RTL support, etc.It seems to me that there is a little bit of arrogance coming from members of this forum (or else it's sarcasm that I'm not picking up on). Yes, there are important improvements, like this one, notes in Publisher, antialiasing in basic selections in Photo, global object selections, shape builder and warps in Designer, more robust Boolean operations in vector graphics in general, and a few other, well worth getting an upgrade (especially if working on multiple platforms). I have to disagree, here is one raw file development is quite different and it is better. in system requirements, but this is another story). Anyone expecting fundamental changes throughout the app trio will be sadly disappointed (there are fundamental changes, e.g. In addition to new features (like notes in Publisher) I have only seen cosmetic changes been made. I would be more than happy to proven wrong, but so far I have not seen any traces of radical changes or improvements between the major versions (at least on Windows platform, which I have tested more so far), to deserve the advertised terms REFINED and REDESIGNED. UPDATE: More generally, some users on this forum have implied that there are fundamental changes between 1.x and 2.x versions of Affinity apps. This means that notes included in IDML saves from InDesign are not so far translated to native Publisher notes (neither footnotes or endnotes). 1.x and 2.x, even if version 2.x now supports notes (as does IDML). IMO there are no changes in IDML support between Publisher v. I am not sure that I understood what you mean. I want to know if the code was moved untouched from V1, or if anyone has worked on it to fix/improve (in which case I'd check it out). IDML should have been sufficient for my needs. ![]() Make tessellations with LEGOS via Little Bins for Little Hands.Print and color some tessellation puzzles at Frugal Fun for Boys and Girls.Check out the symmetry image gallery on artist M.C.If you do a family art night, or are thinking about starting a new tradition, this would be a fun project to work on together!įor even more tessellation fun, try some of these ideas: We are big fans of simple drawing projects like this, that use just a few basic art supplies. We have the designer Koujin Ohno to thank for the design of these and other robots from the Diaclone Car-Robots line – you can even find the patent for his ‘reconfigurable toy’ here. The reason: Rachet and Ironhide began life as a Diaclone toy, and unlike the Transformers, the Diaclone robots were ‘operated’ by little humanoid figures. And why didn’t he look like the far cooler-looking robot in the TV series? And why didn’t he have a proper head? Sure, he looked fine in his disguise as an ambulance (or a van in Ironhide’s case), but as a robot? He could be charitably described as ungainly. Little kids receiving their first Transformers in 19 might have been a bit confused by Rachet, and his red cousin, Ironhide. Budiansky even wrote the little biographies which appeared on the back of each Transformers box – a clever means of giving personality and depth to what could have been just another toy. Most importantly, he gave each robot a memorable character quirk, such as Grimlock’s arrogance or Starscream’s constant plans to usurp Megatron as leader of the Decepticons. It was Budiansky who came up with such names as Optimus Prime, Hound and Jazz. The idea of having two opposing forces of good and evil robots came from Marvel’s editor-in-chief, Jim Shooter, while legendary comic book writer and editor Bob Budiansky was responsible for another important innovation: the Transformers’ names and personalities. Joe in 1982, Hasbro turned to Marvel to help flesh out the Transformers‘ back story. Unlike other companies, such as Joustra or the Mega Corporation, who’d previously sold Takara’s toys overseas, Hasbro did more than merely just sell the products in redesigned packaging – they united the lines under a single banner, The Transformers.Īs they had with G.I. Struck by these designs, Hasbro hatched a deal with Takara to sell them in America. Although the two ranges of toys were different, they shared a common idea: robots that could disguise themselves as vehicles or ordinary objects. Takara were showing off a range of figures from its Microman line of toys, which it called Diaclone and Micro Change. Joe action figures to sell as Combat Joe in Japan. There, they were reunited with Japanese manufacturer Takara – a company Hasbro had originally dealt with in the 1970s, when Takara licensed some of Hasbro’s G.I. That search ended in 1982, when executives from Hasbro attended the Tokyo Toy Fair. A war for the attention of America’s youngsters had begun, and Hasbro started searching around for a new toy idea to win it. Hasbro’s rival Mattel, meanwhile, had an enormous hit with its He-Man range of fantasy action figures and the animated show which promoted them. Joe figures in 1982, which was supported by an animated TV series and a comic book published by Marvel Comics. The release of Star Wars had sparked a boom in action figures and merchandise in the late 70s and early 80s, and companies including Mattel and Hasbro adopted a similar approach to selling toys in its wake. |
